OptiComp in Zephyr Cove, NV – Embedded Systems Engineer - 2008 to 2010

    Responsibilities included lead of the Embedded Systems team; Design hardware and firmware for multi-channel +40Gb/s electrical to optical transceiver’s embedded Digital Diagnostic Transceiver Controller (DDTC) using SiLabs 8051 MCU  (IAR, SDCC, Keil) for compliance to MSA DDMI specifications and also developed custom specification for OptiComp’s multi-channel transceiver configurations; Designed schematics and circuit layouts (OrCAD capture & PCB Editor) for in-house firmware development and test platforms, Implemented network protocol (RapidIO, Ethernet, PCIe) test and demonstration platforms using FPGA’s (Xilinx Virtex-5) with multi-gigabit SERDES (GTP, GTX); Architected logic for RapidIO switch/router for satellite plug-n-play applications (SPA); developed reusable PHY layer IP (Verilog);  Design compliance for airborne systems; Conducted heavy-ion exposure test for satellite electronics applications (U.C. Berkeley 88-inch Cyclotron June 2009); Technical collaboration with contractors; Writing specifications for new technologies; Conducting and analyzing research and writing technical proposals and reports for customers including SBIR’s, U.S. Defense and Homeland Security agencies.

Kurt Manufacturing in Blaine, MN - Senior Electrical Engineer - 1996 to 2002

    Responsible for all design work relating to a family of data acquisition hardware (KurtUSB) including: product idea and concept, schematic circuit design and board layout (OrCAD, Ultiboard), firmware programming, and Windows DLL and USB device driver development.  Conducted FCC and CE compliance testing (TÜV Taylor Falls, MN).  Also responsible for industrial control system design on automated measurement machinery including: circuit design, PLC (Allen-Bradley) and touch screen programming, servo and frequency drive configuration, and mechanical and pneumatic troubleshooting as well as startup at customer facilities. 

Simplimatic Engineering in Forest Lake, MN - Electrical Engineer - 1994 to 1996

    Responsibilities included industrial controls design, PLC (AB, Modicon, and Siemens) and HMI programming, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting and field service on large-scale automated package handling machinery mainly for the food and beverage industry.

PC Express in Eden Prairie, MN – Computer Engineering Intern - 1994

    Responsibilities included evaluation and testing of PC hardware components, such as video cards and motherboards, calculating power supply requirements and making recommendations for new product offerings.  Also assisted with the troubleshooting and repair of computers.

Mankato State University in Mankato, MN – Software Tutor - 1994

    Tutored university students in Microsoft Assembler programming during weekly scheduled labs, assisting the professor, and also was available in the computer lab for additional tutoring.
